I talk alot about Gratitude to my weightloss clients. You might wonder, what do I have to be grateful for when I am so overweight, or when I can't make healthy food choices...etc etc etc. I have just read the book by Debbie Macomber, "One Simple Act, Discovering the power of generosity" and in this book Debbie talks about being grateful for all things in our lifes, even when they seem awful. It is easy to be grateful for all the good things in our lives but I think it is very powerful to be grateful for the hurt and pain in our lifes, very often though, these are the greatest lessons and sometimes gifts we receive. The key is to trust that everything happens for a reason. So now you ask, what can I do or how do I begin? By keeping a gratitude Journal, make a daily list of everything you have to be grateful for, try to write a list of 5 things, include something new everyday and try to include something you wouldn't think to normally be grateful for. For Instance, I am grateful for my struggles with food and once being 400 lbs, for if I didn't have this blessing I would not be where I am today. If you don't like writing then practice a gratefullness mediation. Sit in a chair with your spine straight, close your eyes and focus on your breath (It can help to count the breath or repeat the words "I am") once you feel centered you can make a mental list of everthing you have to be grateful for. You can set the timer for 5 or 10 mins to start and gradually lenghten your meditation. You will experience peace and calm throughout your day. I 100% promise you, if you make gratitude a part of everyday your life will change.
Until next time,
Teresa
